Allergy Friendly Desserts in Dallas

Having food allergies and sensitivities makes it hard to indulge in desserts during a night out. After living in Dallas for 3 years, I have compiled a list of some of my favorite places that include dairy free and gluten free options and I've listed my go-to menu item from each place.

1. Sprinkles

Sprinkles has multiple gluten free cupcakes including their lemon blueberry cupcake and a red velvet cupcake. At their ice cream locations (which serves cupcakes, cookies, and ice cream), they have a gluten free chocolate chip cookie and dairy free sorbet. The lemon blueberry cupcake is my order 99% of the time.

2. Baldo's Ice Cream & Coffee

Baldo's is the latest addition to Hillcrest and is providing SMU students with delicious desserts within walking distance of campus. They have both gluten free and dairy free dessert options: gluten free cookies, 4 flavors of "vitality" dairy free ice cream, and alcoholic ice cream options. They can even make you a gluten free waffle cone! Make sure to get a punch card so you can get a free ice cream or coffee after a few visits. My personal favorite is the Berries and Cream flavor.

3. HG Supply Co.

Fun fact y'all: their entire menu is gluten free and dairy free (except their burger buns, which they also have a gluten free option for). This includes their desserts which range from a seasonal option like cobbler to a gluten free brownie sundae with almond milk ice cream and gooey chocolate sauce. If I ever manage to save room for dessert at the end of my meal, I always go for the brownie sundae.

4. Paciugo Gelato

This gelato shop is serving up dairy free options that are water based. I don't know how they make a water based dessert taste so good. These flavors include orange, lemon, raspberry, and other tropical flavors. My go-to order is a combo of lemon and raspberry sorbet.

5. Unrefined Bakery

I have been saying I wanted to try this place for years and I finally went to the one on Greenville. They have vegan, soy-free, KETO, and gluten free options for breads, muffins, cupcakes, cookie and more. I tried the strawberry cupcake and got a lemon cupcake to go. They nail the consistency of a gluten-free cupcake, which can be really hard when not using wheat flour. Their breads and muffins are sold refrigerated so you can take them home.
