My Weekend Getaway in Temecula

I recently visited my home state to celebrate my best friend's 21st birthday in Temecula and San Diego and I had the BEST time! I had never been to Temecula and had never gone wine tasting before and now I'm hooked. If you're looking for an affordable weekend getaway, I highly recommend staying in San Diego and eating/drinking your way through Temecula. Below, I am sharing a recap of my weekend getaway in Temecula with day by day details.

Friday

We arrived at the house in San Diego in the late evening, so we had dinner at the house, which included a taco bar, cookies, delicious cocktails, and some music and dancing. Anyone else love to dance anytime the Mamma Mia soundtrack comes on?! The drink below was my drink of choice this night and if you are looking for a summer cocktail, this will be your new favorite.

Saturday

Wilson Creek Winery

We started the day off with wine tasting at Wilson Creek. This winery has beautiful photo opportunities scattered throughout their tasting rooms and seating areas. They also have beautiful rows of grape vines you can walk through as you sip their delicious wines. They are known for their almond champagne and it is my new favorite drink! Our group's favorite drinks were almond champagne, coconut champagne, and their 2017 Moscato.

Ponte Winery

This winery has a tasting room as well as a delicious restaurant. We had lunch here and ordered a few glasses of wine while we dined on the covered patio. I recommend having lunch here between your wine tastings because it was nice to sit, eat, and drink some water. After lunch, we explored the rest of the vineyard. They have beautiful blooming white roses that line the walkways and make for the best photo spots.

Bottaia Winery

This winery takes your idea of wine tasting to a whole new level. They have two different wine tasting rooms. One is more traditional, while the other is bright and open with high-rise tables. This tasting room provides cheese pairings to go with the wines you taste! Bottaia also just opened a pool where you can lay out, swim, and drink cocktails from their poolside bar. There are rentable dressing rooms that have showers and towels for you to freshen up after a few hours at the pool. For a poolside cocktail, I recommend the Rossini which has Moscato and strawberry puree.

Sunday

We started off our day at Rustic Root, a restaurant making their own versions of your favorite cocktails. From frozen Rosé to cocktails big enough for the whole table, Rustic Root did not disappoint.

After brunch, we walked around the Sunday street market. It occurs every Sunday and had everything from cookies to jewelry vendors. We then went back to Rustic Root and enjoyed the view from their rooftop bar. We spent our afternoon enjoying the scenery and soaking up the warmth of the fire pit in the middle of our table.

I highly recommend a weekend getaway to Temecula and San Diego. Temecula was more affordable than Napa Valley, and is perfect for a one or two day trip.
